How to Effectively Prospect & Recruit on Social Media Without Convincing Anyone
Before you can begin to prospect and recruit online . . . you need to know what NOT to do … if you want to successfully build your team.
Contrary to what you may have been told by your upline, Social Media recruiting is NOT the digital version of traditional recruiting.
I found this out… the hard way!
Here’s what I mean…. let me first share a few quick highlights about my traditional attempts.
My marketing attempts started with the usual:
- Make a list of 100 acquaintances and send out “copy and paste” messages
- Invite friends to a home party under the guise of “information” only to transition to selling and promoting a business plan
- Spam my products and their catalog description on my personal profile
I felt sleazy and cheap talking to anyone I met with a hidden agenda.
But, this is what I received in return:
- No one cared about my “stuff”.
- No one was impressed with my business plan.
- A few that did sign up, left a few months later.
I hated prospecting and recruiting.
Now, thankfully, those past encounters are a fading memory for most. Everything digital has been deleted.
I have experienced incredible negativity and opposition in my life, but nothing like the rejection of close friends family, and acquaintances.
Fortunately, hardships teach us to find other ways, and I did.
I found a new approach – a refreshing strategy that made sense – and did not require me to hate who I was becoming.
The direction of my network marketing journey has completely changed where I am inspired and confident.
I am over the moon happy because I know this can make a huge shift in my retirement life.
Building online is extremely effective but leveraging social media means doing it in a professional way to upgrade our industry.
Our industry has a very poor reputation, and here’s why.
The Internet Never Forgets and It’s Ruining It for Everyone Else!
Too many marketers today are taught to use social media with the wrong message.
There’s a VERY fine line between recruiting with social media and spamming people.
I’m sorry to say that most network marketers have been turned into human spam bots by their upline and company leaders.
Spreading the word about a company’s products as a “distributor” can not only ruin your reputation, but it also risks the suspension or your social media account.
Have you ever received or even sent messages like the following ?
These is an example of the WRONG WAY to prospect online.
Building a business is NOT about tricking people to do what you want, or finding the right copy/paste messages to send to strangers.
But if you’re still a little fuzzy on whether you are a spammer or not, here’s a guide of sorts…
Top 5 Warning Signs Your Social Media Prospecting Efforts are Actually SPAM
- Your first message to a stranger includes a link to buy a product or join your team.
- You get angry replies via private messaging and/or you have been reported as a spammer.
- You post links to your business in the comments section of other people’s social media posts.
- You compulsively want to talk about your company or products without anyone asking you to share.
Finally… this one is the most important one…
- You engage in conversations online with a hidden agenda hoping to transition the topic to something about your business without caring about or knowing the other person.
This last one for me is a big one for me.
This is where I felt cheap, sleazy, and awkward.
That is why I eventually decided to stop prospecting altogether.
What a relief that was.
I was able to have fun with my friends or go to the mall without having to think about prospecting or getting to “that” conversation.
After years of being taught by my upline that “everyone was a prospect” and to approach every conversation with a hidden agenda; it was incredible just to be normal again. I was FREE!
it wasn’t until I STOPPED prospecting that my business actually started growing!
Quality prospects reach out to me.
I have become the hunted instead of the hunted.
At this point, you may be asking…
“How can you grow a network marketing business without recruiting with social media and spamming your friends and family?”
Well before I answer that, I have to say that there are people who are very skilled prospectors and recruiters who completely disregard the issues I mentioned above.
They knowingly and unashamedly, approach every interaction with a stranger as a prospecting opportunity.
Getting yelled at or cursed out by prospects is no big deal, as long as some people say ‘yes.’
I decided that I didn’t want to build my business this way.
I hated feeling sleazy and wanted to be more professional.
The difference was… I learned the true secret to success, and it became the foundation upon which my prospecting, recruiting and business building strategy is founded.
The secret is:
“People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care”
– Theodore Roosevelt
Building a business is about actually caring about people, becoming a person of value, and being someone uniquely positioned to help someone with their problems!
That last part is critical: “uniquely positioned to help someone with their problems.”
Any idiot can copy and paste a message into the Private Message function on Facebook.
It’s how you set yourself apart from the rest of the desperate reps hitting people’s inboxes with their new “ground floor” business programs.
The problem with prospecting in general, as it’s normally taught, is that the mindset going in is still about what YOU want people to do…. and about manipulating people into doing what you want them to do.
In other words, it’s about YOU, not them. About what you want. Your needs.
I didn’t like that, but I still did it for a little while… until I found a better way.
The More Leveraged Alternative to 1-on-1 Prospecting, Which Won’t Make You Feel Like a Cheap Salesman
“When I Stopped Prospecting People, My Business Started Growing!”
With the help of some extraordinary mentors, I eventually discovered an online recruiting strategy which enabled me to recruit more people in one day than than I was able to recruit in the last year.
I am able to passively generate leads, and customers even when I am out having fun with friends and family.
(Hence why I didn’t have to worry about prospecting them!)
Rather than spending hours spamming or private messaging people on social media, I learned how to legitimately get Facebook to actually help me attract the people who are most interested in what I have to offer by using their ads platform!
In fact, almost every day now, I wake up to an email inbox with notifications for new leads – that’s new prospects coming to me – all while I was sleeping!
All without resorting to the horrible and deceitful tactics commonly used when recruiting with social media – like spamming and chasing people.
This strategy is called ‘attraction marketing’, which is an internet marketing strategy designed for networkers and people in direct sales!
Here’s a quick snapshot ….
The Keystone to Growing a Successful Online Marketing Business:
- Attract your Audience with being YOU – You are the brand.
- Know who your audience is. (Not everyone is your perfect target audience)
- Influence your audience with education, inspiration, and value on the solutions to their problems.
- Engage with your audience and build a relationship of trust.
- Promote to your audience and enroll your prospect.
The key is to be professional, learn marketing skills, solve problems and build relationships!
You see… if your business depends on you being on social media, sending private messages, or commenting on people’s posts all day, you are NOT doing internet marketing… despite what you may have been led to believe by your upline.
Online prospecting and internet marketing are NOT the same thing!
Internet marketing is a passive strategy, which works, even when you are not.
So if you want to learn how to PASSIVELY build a business by attracting the prospects you want online, then get access to a free 10-Day Online Recruiting Bootcamp which reveals the strategy I use.
Plus….you’ll also get more details about the book, my friend and mentor wrote, that goes into the nuts n’ bolts of the recruiting & selling formula.
This book and the free bootcamp that comes with it is how I started and what made a HUGE difference in my business.
I love working on my business now. What a difference it’s made to my lifestyle, and my outlook.
Now if traditional prospecting online or offline is your thing and you want to stick to that, by all means, go for it.
For me, there was simply a certain way I wanted to live my life and that was more important.
I would much rather make a ton of money in my business first; and then have my friends and family beg me to tell them more about it.
It’s much better than begging my friends and family to join a business which isn’t making any money.
Which would you prefer?
I wish you massive success.
